Get up and go...
The Spanish Pyrenees are renowned both for their variety of wildlife but also for the myriad of activities available to the visitor. Can Cruanyes is ideally situated to take advantage of a large number of outdoor activities, from skiing to golfing, there's something to suit any taste. Each season offers a range of different activities to suit all. To the right are some of the most popular to be enjoyed in the region.
Local Activities

One of the most popular activities in this part of the world is walking and most walks are accessible to the reasonably fit. As well as walks from Sadernes, Beget and further into the Pyrenees there are a few walks that run close to Tortella and Can Cruanyes itself.

2 ski resorts are within an hours drive of Can Crunayes. Valter 2000 and Val de Nuria. Val de Nuria is situated in a beautiful valley in some of the most outstanding natural scenery in the Pyrenees. This resort can only be reached by a rack-and-pinion train, known as the Cremallera, the last of its kind in Catalonia. This heart stopping journey brings you through the narrow gorges of the region, often leaving you perched between a sheer drop and a percipitous rock-face hanging above you.

Can Crunayes is within a 45 min drive of some excellent courses. PGA Golf Catalunya is located just outside Girona. This world famous golf resort hosts a course which is among Europe's best. Also on the outskirts of Girona there is Golf Girona boasting 18 holes, par 72, covering a distance of 6,100 metres. To the north east of Can Cruanyes is the Torremirona Golf course, which has 18 holes, and is a par 72. We also recommend Golf de Pals. All of these golf courses offer club houses where the thirsty golfer can quench his thirst after a round of golf.

San Pere Pescador is the closest beach from Can Cruanyes - about 35 mins away. It is a vast, clean, unspoilt, undeveloped beach popular with kitesurfers and windsurfers. There are also numerous small coves and beaches for those seeking a quieter day by the sea or wishing to visit a traditional seaside village. There are also plenty of water sport centres along the coast in Lloret de Mar, Tossa de Mar, L'Escala, Platja D'Aro, Roses, Cadaques, Llanca and the Cap de Creus.

There are many equestrian centres in the area but we recommend Can Major in Montagut beacuase of its particulary beautiful surroundings and friendly staff. A three hour trek taking in some spectacular scenery costs about 35 euro per person.

Recently on the route of the Tour de France the area is famed amongst cyclists. Bike rental can be arranged locally and there is an abundance of on & off road cycling trails in the area. There is a cycle path all the way from Olot to the coast which is great for all ages.

This area has a very lush and diverse plant life, with woods of holm oak and beech. This has in turn led to a greatly varied animal and bird life. Among the 143 species of bird that are known to inhabit the Garrotxa, woodland birds such as the nuthatch, tawny owl, peregrine falcon, short-toed treecreeper, goshawk and great spotted woodpecker are particularly common, while short-toed eagles and Bonelli's warblers are frequent summer visitors. Animals include beech martens, wildcats, genets, badgers, wild boar and shrews.

For the highly adventurous there is the option of a hot-air balloon ride that will transport you over the yawning craters of the volcanic region. The organisation Vol De Coloms caters for balloon rides. They will provide you with a traditional sausage and champagne breakfast.
